Let’s Connect!

If you’re a parent and have found yourself feeling overwhelmed or burnt out recently, I see you and you’re not alone! You are working so hard to be the best parents for your kiddos, but everything just seems so stressful! Modern parenting comes with many challenges that our parents never had to manage, so without a, “blueprint” or skills to navigate it, it can be SO HARD! Maybe you’ve tried traditional talk therapy in the past and it wasn’t for you, or maybe you would just like to try something new. If so, you’re in the right place! I’m Jenn (she/her) and I specialize in a client-centered, relational, walk and talk approach to therapy. This means that when we work together, we do so while walking on a local nature trail. I choose to walk alongside my clients because I believe that it provides a more natural opportunity to build genuine and collaborative relationships with them.

Walk and talk therapy also has the potential to help clients prone to high anxiety or dysregulation feel more relaxed than in a typical clinical setting. Not to mention, that walking in nature just plain feels good because it increases endorphins, decreases stress hormones and blood pressure, decreases depression and anxiety, and promotes focus and self-regulation. I believe that change happens when clients have the opportunity to heal and grow within safe, connected, and healthy relationships. When working with me, clients are supported by nature and movement as they process relational patterns, increase self awareness, and they are empowered to tap into their strengths and learn to trust their inner wisdom to build a more resilient, authentic life.

Education & Licensure

My graduate studies afforded me an M.S. degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas and I am a registered counseling associate in supervision with Thomas Doherty, PsyD. I’m also a National Certified Counselor (NCC,) as well as a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Oregon Counseling Association (ORCA.)  In addition to walk and talk therapy, I have experience supporting parents, individuals, and children experiencing chronic stress using traditional talk therapy, art therapy, group therapy, and child-centered play therapy (CCPT.) When working with me, I utilize my knowledge of interpersonal neurobiology, polyvagal theory, family systems theory, attachment, human development, neurodiversity, and cultural diversity to create safe and neuroaffirming relationships with my clients. I am most interested in supporting parents of children and pre-teens as well as individuals experiencing acute and chronic stress, burnout, and major life transitions.

Land Acknowledgement

I would like to acknowledge the Kalapuya, the original guardians of the land where Wander Wise Counseling, LLC resides. With gratitude, I am so fortunate to respectfully share the beauty of the white oaks, maples, conifers, Douglas firs, ponderosa pines, and hills and streams in the area currently known as Beaverton, Oregon, with my clients.  I am committed to expanding my knowledge, respect, and relationships with the many beings that we are all deeply interconnected with.

If we surrendered

to earth’s intelligence

we could rise up rooted, like trees.

Instead we entangle ourselves

in knots of our own making

and struggle, lonely and confused.

So like children, we begin again...to fall,

patiently to trust our heaviness.

Even a bird has to do that

before he can fly.”

— -Rainer Maria Rilke

More about me

When I am not with clients, I enjoy time spent with my friends and family watching baseball, traveling, hiking, making art, and photography. In the warmer months, I also enjoy working in my yard/garden to make it a colorful, pollinator-friendly space! Fun fact: I grew up on Colorado’s Front Range and spent the majority of my childhood outside, constantly covered in dirt and always in awe of sunsets behind the great Rocky Mountains. To this day, I still find any excuse to go outside!
