Let’s Connect

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#C4213) in Beaverton, OR. For almost the entirety of my 12+ years working as a therapist, I have specialized in working with children, especially young children under the age of 12. My goal is for you AND your children to feel a sense of accomplishment through therapy – that you will be able to both feel and name the positive difference in your lives as a result of our work together. My approach is eclectic, and highly tailored to your child’s unique needs. Whether you are looking for help with challenging behaviors, emotion regulation skills, recovering from a traumatic event, improving communication, or simply building up your child’s sense of confidence and self-esteem, I can help you forge a path that is right for you and your family.

When you work with me, we will focus on:

Identifying and building up sources of strength and resilience

  • Taking small, practical steps toward your family’s goals (that are achievable in real life!)

  • Learning social/emotional skills based in neuroscience from a variety of complimentary therapy approaches (including ACT, CBT, DBT, IFS, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, and many others!)

Why Play-Based Therapy with Beth?

Play is the primary means by which children make sense of their world and themselves. It is rehearsal for life, how they learn best, and the most effective way for them to build relationships with adults and each other. Research tells us that secure attachment relationships are the single greatest predictor of resilience: the ability to recover from setbacks, successfully navigate challenges, and adapt to change.

A lot of my work with children and families involves strengthening a child’s greatest source of resilience: their relationship with YOU! I’m trained in several types of parent/child relationship-centered therapies, including Parent/Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), The Incredible Years, and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT). My work is grounded in Family Systems Theory and Holistic Health, which means I strive to always keep in mind that children live in context – context that is made up of their family, friends, neighborhood, sleeping habits, dietary needs, culture, school environment, media use, level of physical activity, and much more.  All these domains present their own unique set of challenges and resources.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood”
— Fred Rogers
