Play is the primary means by which children make sense of their world and themselves. It is rehearsal for life, how they learn best, and the most effective way for them to build relationships with adults and each other. Research tells us that secure attachment relationships are the single greatest predictor of resilience: the ability to recover from setbacks, successfully navigate challenges, and adapt to change. A lot of my work with children and families involves strengthening a child’s greatest source of resilience: their relationship with YOU! I’m trained in several types of parent/child relationship-centered therapies, including Parent/Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), The Incredible Years, and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT). My work is grounded in Family Systems Theory and Holistic Health, which means I strive to always keep in mind that children live in context – context that is made up of their family, friends, neighborhood, sleeping habits, dietary needs, culture, school environment, media use, level of physical activity, and much more.
